Bobby McMann joins The Seattle Kraken

Kraken Strike Late: Seattle Acquires Bobby McMann from Maple Leafs

In a final-hour push to solidify their postseason aspirations, the Seattle Kraken have acquired forward Bobby McMann from the Toronto Maple Leafs. The deal, finalized on the March 6 trade deadline, sees the Kraken sending a 2026 fourth-round pick and a conditional 2027 second-round pick to Toronto.

The acquisition of the 29-year-old power forward feels less like a blockbuster swing and more like a calculated audition. With McMann set to become an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) this summer, the Kraken front office is effectively using the final stretch of the season as a trial run. If he can provide the secondary scoring and physical presence the team has lacked, a contract extension could be on the table; if not, Seattle likely views the mid-to-late round picks as a fair price for a low-risk rental.

In the immediate term, head coach Lane Lambert has a puzzle to solve regarding the lineup. McMann’s versatility allows him to slide onto the wing of Chandler Stephenson or even Shane Wright, and potentially provide some net-front grit to the second unit. With no players headed to Toronto in the exchange, the Kraken’s forward depth is suddenly a “good problem” to have, though it puts several bubble players on notice as McMann fights to prove he belongs in the Deep Sea’s long-term plans.

A Proven Scoring Threat

McMann arrives in the Pacific Northwest in the midst of a career-defining season. Through 60 games with the Maple Leafs this year, he tallied 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points, placing him second among Kraken players in goals (behind only Jordan Eberle).

“We look at Bobby as a player that brings speed to our lineup, gets pucks to the net, and gets to the net,” said Botterill. “He’s a big, strong forward who knows how to put the puck in the net, and he complements our group very well.”

At 6-foot-2 and 217 pounds, McMann provides the physical “backup B game” that Kraken head coach Lane Lambert values. Interestingly, McMann and Lambert share a history from Lambert’s time as an associate coach in Toronto, a connection that likely smoothed the path for this acquisition.
